So the other day I was asked why I create paintings on paper and thought because I'm asked this question often I felt it was worthy of it's own post. I think a lot of people are under the impression that fine art paintings are only created on canvas but the reality is that artwork on paper has been around since the 2nd Century in China where paper was invented. Artists such as DaVinci and other artists of the 15th Century fine tuned their paintings and sculptures by sketching on paper prior to finishing their masterpieces. It was Picasso and Barque who worked with paper and created artwork with collage and introduced us to works on paper and of course Matisse only worked with paper to create his artwork. Fast forward to today and there are several artists including myself who create art on paper. There's also a huge variety of paper available for Artist's to work with depending on the type of work on paper they're creating and there are also various grades of paper for artists to choose from, there's very average paper to high quality (professional grade) paper. Personally I only use high quality, heavyweight paper to create my paintings on paper because I want my collectors to enjoy their paintings for a lifetime. The paper I work with is always high quality professional grade paper which is acid free and purposely manufactured to last a lifetime. In a future post I'll write about why I enjoy offering my paintings on paper to my collectors and the enjoyment that goes into creating my paintings on paper. So who told you buying Original Art Work is only for the wealthy elite? Who told you that? I think a lot of people think Original Art Work is only sold in prominent auction houses like Christie's or Sotheby's or in local art galleries, wrong. Maybe 25 years ago but not today. Flowers in a Clay Pot you can view more details about this painting here. You can buy Original Art Work, I think any one can, check this out... If you earn a living of some sort, or you can afford to pay your cell phone and/or car payment whatever I would say you can afford to buy a Original Painting or any other piece of fine art. Before we had on-line shopping at our finger tips Artists had no choice but to go through an Art gallery to sell their paintings, the Artist would have to jack up the price on their Art Work because once the gallery sold that particular piece of Art they would keep half the dollar amount of what the painting was sold for and this is how galleries have made their money and still do because there are artists out there who are more comfortable selling through galleries and that's fine because that's their choice. So unlike 10 years ago as an Artist we don't have to sell our art through Art Galleries we can sell our Art online directly to our customers at much more affordable prices. If you really like the work of an Artist but you can't afford to fork out a huge chunk of change just reach out to the artist and let them how much you love their work and that you want to buy one of their paintings but that you can't afford the entire dollar amount at the moment. That artist may offer you installments for the purchase, I know several artists (including myself) that breakdown the cost of a painting into 2-3 installments for you to purchase. Obviously each artist is different and some won't be open but most Artists that I know will, especially if their serious artists' with a passion for the Arts, but if you don't ask you'll never know. I don't know about you but it's so hard for me to believe that we're headed into May next month, a busy month for so many with Prom's, Graduation Ceremonies, Prepping for June weddings etc. Just in case you forgot Mother's Day is also in May... So my mother is fairly easy to shop for, she has quite the sweet tooth so I always get a combination of quality chocolates and grocery store candy. So far that's worked pretty well - At 95 I think you have the right to eat and drink whatever the hell you dam well please hahahaha. On the other hand if you're like my husband he has a much harder time with Mother's Day because he always feels that buying flowers for her on Mothers Day is so repetitious. He sends her flowers every year for Mothers Day and wonders if his Mom thinks "well thanks for putting so much thought into my gift, you've been sending me flowers for years". Needless to say he now sends her one of flower paintings because he knows that she's not only enjoys it but he knows the gift she's receiving is not only hand-made but it's going to last her a lifetime unlike flowers that may last a week and a half (if you're lucky). A friend of mine has purchased a painting similar to the one above with a switch out in a couple of colors which is another awesome point to buying your Mom an original painting, it's going to be unique and there will never be another like it. So if you're thinking of buying a painting with a different color other than what is currently on a painting on my website just let me know, there's still plenty of time to order your painting. Customization is limited depending on the colors ( some colors need additional layers of paint which in turn will require longer drying time ) if you think an original painting would be gift your Mom would appreciate contact me to learn more about requesting a certain color of flower or vase, or if you have any other questions just contact me here.
